Major Upgrade to Kea Content Management System

3 July 2007

Katipo is pleased to announce a major upgrade is about to take place to your Kea Content Management system.

New Kea Interface and Editor

There will be a new user interface, which will be more user friendly and attractive to use.

Features that you have requested, such as having a windows-like folder tree for navigation, have been incorporated.

There is also a new Editor, incorporating features such as "Paste Word Text" which removes that unwanted Word formatting, "Insert Special Characters" - such as macrons and other accents. There is also much more control over the placement of images.

To help you become familiar with the new system before it goes live, we have set up a test site for your own website where you can try out the new system and familiarise yourself with the features.

Katipo are in the process of updating our Kea Tutorials to describe the new Interface and Editor.

Your Test Site

Each of the current live sites using the existing Kea Editor now has a test site, where you can try out the new editor and interface.

To access your test site, you use the same login details as for your current edit site.

The easiest way to find the test site is to first go to your current edit site, Then in the url type -test immediately after the word edit in the url.

So for   www.yoursite.org.nz , the edit site url is:

http://yoursite.edit.katipo.co.nz/kaka/

To visit the test site, -test is added:

http://yoursite.edit-test.katipo.co.nz/kaka/

New Kea Interface

  • The New Kea Interface has the folders as an expandable tree in the left pane.
  • The main difference from the existing interface is in the positioning of the various action buttons.
  • To Edit Content you now click on the file name in the first column.
  • To View the file, click the View link in the second column.
  • Buttons are positioned above the file list for a particular folder. As before, you click in the box to the left of a file to select it, then click on the button for the action you wish to perform.
  • To move to a different folder, click on the + to expand the folder, then click on the folder you want. The contents of the folder (files) are then displayed in the file pane.
  • The Edit source and Edit Info functions are now controlled by buttons. It is necessary to select the file then click on the button.
  • There is a new function "Size", which displays the size of the files in the folder.
  • Files may be sorted by Filename, Size, Last Modified or Status, by clicking on those headings.
  • The "Go to" input field has moved to the right of the screen, as have the "you are here" and "checked out files" list.

Editing a file with the new Editor:

Clicking on the file name brings up the Edit window, clicking on a blue section brings up the actual editor.

The arrangement of buttons in the editor is different from the existing ones.

The Editor window is not a popup, it opens within the existing window, so it is not moveable. You can however toggle to full screen mode by clicking the "screen" button which is in the top left corner of the editor.

The Save button is located to the right of the "Toggle to full screen" button.

Remember to save before exiting the editor
