Koha turns 5, and we got the best present - a new version

5 January 2005

Five years ago the first version of Koha was installed in the Horowhenua Public Library, now it's in use by libraries around the world, and Paul Poulain of France has just released version 2.2.

"This new version of Koha is why we released Koha as open source (free) in the first place" says Rachel Hamilton-Williams, current Kaitiaki of the Koha project.

Paul and his team have done a great job, wiith a lot of new functionality going into Koha including

  • Strengthened MARC (library cataloguing standards) support for several different "flavours" of MARC
  • New functionality for patrons/members - they can check the most recent additions to the library
  • Online help
  • More templates, that are easier to customise
  • MARC Authorities
  • Serials Module
  • Spelling suggestions to make it easier to find stuff
  • Book Baskets and virtual bookshelves, so you can save your selections
  • Language chooser and more translations

To give Koha a try you can either go and download it yourselves from Sourceforge, or we'd be happy to set a copy up for you on our server to try, or install it on your server.

Koha is free to download and try yourself, or we charge $90/hr for our time.
