Computerworld Excellence Awards, 2004

3 June 2004

Congratulations to the Horowhenua Library Trust on their recent nomination for the Computerworld Excellence Awards, 2004. The nomination is in the category of "Excellence in the Use of IT in a Not-for-Profit Organisation", in recognition of Katipo's excellent work on the Library's Koha installation.

Koha grew out of collaboration between Katipo and the Horowhenua Library Trust to become the world's first free Open Source Library System. As a full catalogue, opac, circulation, member management and acquisition package, the system has been adopted by numerous libraries world wide. It's the Koha members services functionality that attracted the original nomination for the Trust. And with the field of nominees reduced to 4 finalists last month, we hope the judges see the merits of Koha too.

The awards, which are given to honour outstanding achievement by the users of IT, will be held at The Aotea Conventions Wing at The Edge in Auckland on Friday 25th June, 2004. Rachel and Rosalie will be attending the gala awards presentation ceremony and black tie dinner.

If Horowhenua Library Trust wins, it will add to the host of awards received by Koha since it's version 1.0 release in 1999, including a 3M Innovation in Libraries award, an Interactive New Zealand award and a Les Trophees Du Libre (Free Software Trophies). With the recent release of version 2.0, Koha has a bright future.

Koha at the LIANZA Library Conference

Koha will be attracting even more attention in September when it will be on display at the LIANZA Library Conference in Auckland. The Katipo team will be installing Koha for free at the show. If you're interested, come along to the event, speak to someone at the Katipo booth (stand No.36) and don't forget your laptop.
